You can actually acheive very similar results to WireShader... not quite the same, but very similar...
Here is the procedure... (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58817)

hard choice, both are very excellent, both have alternatives that are close but not as nice or flexible. best to ask yourself what you need to do more of, Wireframes, or translucent effects.

im thinking im gonna go with trans pro...i mean wireshader looks sweet, but one cant render everything in a wire...besides when i get enough im gonna get sniper...and citygen once its realised...so i will support pauls great efforts. I just dont think on wireshader...at the moment.

I jut got WireShader and it's great. I haven't used the other one.
Bear in mind you don't just have to do wires, I'm doing rusty, dirty joints with it. It's great combined with SLA.. On the other hand, you can't do translucency with it :)

for me its defenitley wireshader.
i need this almost everyday.
translucent pro i will buy in the case i will need it, was not yet the case.
wireshader is a thing cinema missed a long time. its not only to make simple wireframes. it is a very powerful plugin.
i think it depends what you are doing. i dont need subsurface scattering so urgently. others might need it like i need the wireshader.
so at the end, check what you will do the next month and which shader you will probably use. ot buy both, or through a coin;-)
cheers
