View Full Version : Masking Low-Contrast Images
danlefeb 06-27-2008, 04:23 PM Is there a good plug-in that can mask images with little contrast between the background and foreground? I've tested demos of Fluid Mask, EZ Mask and Mask Pro....Fluid Mask does the best of the three that I've found, but it still has major issues with a lot of images and on the rest of them I find that a lot of the images have that "I've been masked" look (they look like they've been magic wanded). I generally have hundreds of images to mask out at a time, so a fast plug-in would be appreciated :) Thanks!

Sometimes you have to make your own contrast by playing with the channels and using them as mask in the Extract filter or with the usual masking tools.
Here's a pretty good tip on Russel Brown's site:

Scroll down to the CC2 Tips. It's the one called Advanced Background Extraction.
I don't thikn there are any quick solutions, though.
This is also a good book: Photoshop Masking and Compositing by Katrin Eismann

Thanks for the info, I'll stop by the book store and see if I can find that....I'm always up for a good book!
