Ok, well I started to develop a map in the new UT editor, and I went through the basic tutorials and Im getting the hang of it the only question that still remains is for building a map should I be using CSG? Or is it better just to use static meshes made in 3dsmax/maya or whatever the software of your choice is?...

Or what do you find the most useful?. Thanks.

Both :D. This goes especially for if you are using subtractive mode. I typically use the csg to build the basic outlines of my level, then fill that empty room with static meshes.

Subtractive mode is bad, use additive. Subtractive doesnt even exist technically, and it has no impact on how intensive you should use meshes either. You may mean indoor mapping vs outdoor mapping.

Basically use whatever you want. Both have pros and cons. If you never used a BSP based editor before, you will prolly build way quicker if you only use models. People with a BSP background however usually prefer a low poly BSP approach filled in with meshes on top.

Plenty of Unreal games use almost no or very little BSP, so its perfectly ok to use just mesh if you feel more confortable like that.
