Hi!

I'm trying to plan out my next project. To model a male and female character for use in
both games and hi-rez. The plan is to use these models as a base for other characters.

I'm going to use Max and ZBrush.

The plan now is to model a basic human form in Max and do the UVs.
Then do the male, female and painting in ZBrush (and PS).
Then export or bild the low-rez in Max.

My problem now is that I want to be able to pick maby just the hands for another character.
I could bring in the model into ZBrush in pieces as subtools but then I would be at a to early stage for the pieces and maps to fit together in the end.
I could do it as one piece and export the hi-rez to max and make the normals there. But then
I would not have the advantage of the subtools and the higher rez that enables and I dont
know how I would cut up the character in Max. I probobly could just cut it up in Max after
Generating the normals and do new UVs based on the old ones.

I'm quite new at this so any tips would be appreciated.

By the way! Now when people are doing characters in pieces are they seperate pieces in Max or different elements of the same object?

I think it might be more beneficial to model a male and female in 3ds max, instead of having a generic one, because the silhouette of the 2 genders will be drastically different. The male will be more beefy, and the female will have very curvy hips and breasts.

Yeah, you are probobly right. I was thinking of doing a new low-rez for eatch
based on the high-rez in Max later.
