Title: Steam Locomotive
Name: Rainer Ricq
Country: Canada
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop

This is a render of a locomotive used for a team school project (short cinematic of a fictional game). The animation was set in an altnernate 19th century with steam punk influence. The locomotive was the main character's vehicle, retrofitted with reinforced carriage wheels which allowed the locomotive to travel in city streets. Also armed with 2 gatling guns anchored on pivoting brackets.

Being a huge fan of Steam punk I really enjoy seing pictures of the theme.
The locomotive looks solid and modelled well. The background doesn't look to
shabby either.
The only thing I have is that I think it's a bit too dark. Yes, I understand that
it's overcast, but I would really like to see some high lights on that engine to
bring it clearer into view. It looks like you have all the parts in place but
unfortunately you can't see them.

Another feature, IMHO, should be some damage to the ground because of the
great weight from the train. You know, some cracks or something. Or atleast
a bulge so that you could get a feeling of 50(?) tons of steel storming down
the streets.

All in all, I like the piece and I hope you indulge me and bring some more lights
into the scene so that we can see your efforts better. Keep it up :)

Thanks for the C&C. :)

You bring good points about the lighting and the damage on the street. Once I finish my current project I'll surely revisit this one and make adjustments.
