View Full Version : modeling a Braid with xsi hair ?

Hi people, this is my first post here !
I am a new Xsi user and i m currently trying to had some hair to a character.

The character has two braids so, my first idea was to model it with geometry but the result appear to be very 'unrealistic"

I've seen this fantastic pic on the softimage website :

and i was wondering how it was made

I know the lightwave users have the possibility to build hair with nurbs curves but xsi does not have this feature yet

Any idea ?

That may have not been "hair" so much as a hair shader, although not quite sure. I haven't worked a lot with hair so I'll have to meddle with it and try some things before I offer any further advice or suggestions.

You can built twisted cylinders in XSI by extruding some polys along twisted curves. After that you create hair on these surfaces and comb them along their Y axis (or whatever). So you should get a look like this. There is cool video called 'Puffpiece' on the Shave and a Haircut webpage (www.joealter.com), which is integrated into XSI. This workflow is mentioned there.
