are any Onyx Treestorm users having problems with the new builds that were released for 2008/2009?
I'm getting messages in the material editor saying duplicated ID (This is in 2008), and the trees getting materials removed.
I know there was some mention in the readme that they've done some workaround with sub-materials.
I've e-mailed Onyx, but haven't heard anything back so far - and have switched back to the old plugins for now.
I was considering trying them in 2009 with MR Proxies, but if there's a known issue then I'll just stick with 2008 and the old plugin.

Hey steve - we're looking at at Onyx - I was wondering, can you bake an animated Onyx tree and convert it to an animated MR or VRAY proxy at all?

not tried VRay animated, still worked OK in old version
MR seems to work OK.

Hay Steve.
I am not having any problems in 2009. As a matter of fact, treestorm is working better/more stable than ever before. I have proxied out more than a hundred animated trees, and they work perfectly here.

the problem I was having was in 2008 with the new build that came out around the same time as the 2009 build.
I'm not using 2009 much, because of the reports of black lines in mental ray.
In fact I'm using 9 on the current job I'm on.
I had an e-mail back from Onyx about what I was experiencing, and they recommend that I don't switch between generated UVs and vertex colours once the material has been assigned.
Personally, I wish it had the option to have both at the same time, so you can get the quality of bitmaps with a bit of variety from vcols.

Well I hope you get it all sorted. I do like Onyx.

I have also read about this bug a bunch, but fortunately I have not encountered this here. We
have done 3 major projects and a few small projects with it, and it hasnt happened yet. Of course, now that I have said that, I will see it the very next time I hit render.:)

Just an FYI..
It seems there is a problem in Tree Storm for Max 2009.
Sections of the trees will swing wildly and even rotate 180 degrees around the parent branch.
We have tried every setting available but as long as a segment is enabled (it is not all segments) it will swing around unexpectedly. We also tried it on a different workstation with the same results.
We have contacted Onyx, sent them our files and they are working on the problem.
So far they have been responsive and polite, which is important in calming me down.

Hi everyone,
I'm using 3ds Max 2010 and Tree Storm. Could anybody give me a hint how I can export my animated tree to work with it in Maya? FBX export with animation fails (The plug-in does not support the following objects' geometry type and will convert them to an editable mesh...). So all I get to Maya is a tree without animation.

You could try using an animated MR proxy. I haven't tried this, but should work ?

Solved the problem by creating an Point Cache and exporting the tree as fbx. In Maya I just load the .mc file and it works. Great!

Me again... Max refuse to create a point cache if the polycount of the tree is higher than around 30000, which isnt very high for a tree at all. Does anybody know how to solve this?
