View Full Version : 10 bit log and 16 bit video question
d4ynee 06-26-2008, 08:31 AM Ive been working on a film for a while now, and it is ready to finalize. I have done compositing in Shake, color correction in Lustre and final editing in Final Cut. I am planning on exporting to HDV and digital cinema in 16 bit and 10 bit log.
Any advice on how to do this? id appreciate any help anyone can give.
thanx in advance

if you're exporting for final delivery you don't need to go to 16 bit or 10 bit log, those formats are used in production when you need the range to work with. the normal format for digital projection is 8 or 10 bit lin.
When you mean digital projection, what is it that you mean? real DCI stuff or just to a tapeformat (HDcam, D5, ... ?) either way, if you're gonne let it be processed/dumped in an external company i would just supply an uncompressed 10 bit file in the format that they want (which required a mail or phonecall to the company of your choosing).

Hmm. Depends. Usually you do deliver 10 bit log files (at least if say you just do the VFX and conforming, etc happens elsewhere). I'd say talk to whoever you are going to give the stuff first. They might have very strict guidelines on how you need to deliver the footage.
