Vivek, I can't really tell what problem you have by looking at your image. Just some helpful hints, try look at constraints.
If you would like, feel free to email me the file and I'll take a look at it.

Hey MayaV, the simple answer is to use the piston set up..... ummmm..... I can't find it just yet (Max 5.1) I'll post again when I can but it is there, you can use that one or link the piston that youve created.
Hope that helps

OK, in max 5.1 it's called the damper, all you do is drag it out to the shape of your piston and link the meshs (your modeled piston) to it
Create>Geometry>Dymanics Objects>Damper.
this should be it, hope it helps

thanx & regards

I set up an IK piston and had problems with looping links (you can't & is why I use the in built piston) but the trick to setting up your own is to have one of the shafts with a look at constraint, instead of being linked.

hi
i just had solved my problem it was just that i was doing this exercise after 1 1/2 years i was missing one step. As i see that so many people out here are not aware of Applied IK in 3ds max i feel like writing a tutorial on it and soon i will do it.
regards
Vivek
