is there a way to do this?
i want to seperate part of an object (like an extruded segment) but still keep ito connected to the original object.
its because i need to apply a wire deformer to only that part of the object without it effecting the rest of the object.
i think holders will not do what i want in this instance...

thanks for any advice

A wire deformer doesn't have to affect the entire mesh. You can paint the weights like if it was a bone.

oh ok
ive never used weights yet, but i'll look into that
thanks a lot!

cant you just duplicate the faces?

but then the two objects wouldnt be connected and would tear apart when i start modifying...

wiyamoto: just one question, do i need to put bones in to use weights?

Nope.

Just look up the help file for wire deformers to learn how to weight 'em.

hmmm. i cant find anything in the help file about using weights with wire deformers...
it only has information about using holders. But holders wont do what i want, i think

did i miss something ?

use the edit membership tool... it lets you edit which verticies are affected by a deformer.
