View Full Version : Heightmap raw 16 bits
DeiMortem 06-24-2008, 08:15 AM Hi,
I'm using 3dsmax and I'm trying to create an heightmap saved in a 16 bits raw file from a terran model
so I tried to use the Z depth render element and all other kind of tools but I didn't found how to export in 16 bits
(for those who don't know what's look like the raw 16 bits heightmap file, it s look like multiple greyscale lines)
thanks for any help

Are you talking about an actual ".RAW" file?
As in an Adobe Camera RAW file out of a dSLR camera?
If so, I don't think there are any 3D apps that support that file format.

In fact, you can already save your images in 16 bits in multiple format from any 3D software. What I m looking for is the specific raw format from max. I know some specialized terrain modeler can do that, but it seems not 3dsmax.
I found a solution for my problem but the question is still here. I don't know how to get a 16bits heightmap with the multiple greyscale in raw format.

Well, I know you can save an image in 16bits using multiple formats in almost any 3D app.
However, a .raw file is a very specific format that allows you to change the exposure and white balance of the image before it's converted to a standard bitmap.
This is what I'm asking.
Are you talking about an actual .raw file?
There's a big difference between what many would refer to as a raw image file, and an actual .raw file.
