Title: Troll - Gnomon DVD Project.
Name: Jonas Thornqvist
Country: Sweden
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop

This is a older image I did while creating 2 DVDs for Gnomon.
While the first DVD is almost done I decided I wasn't happy with the result. I will give it another try in the near future!

Im happy with the image and the model though so I thought I post it here.
You can buy the whole scene/model with textures etc over at http://gnomonology.com/tutorial/263. You can also see more views of the model as well as some wireframes there.

Azozel,

Have you followed the steps in my readme file?
If you are using 3dsmax 8 or higher it should appear in the material editor as a SkinPlus+ material.
Make sure you have mentalray as the current render or mentalray materials will not be displayed in the material editor.

I hope you get it to work!

Could you make small rigging tutorial for those who know nothing about rigging, please?
Or just refer to terms to search in documentation.

the hips should definitely be significantly opposite.
Actually, if you study people's walks it's not as cut & dried as that. Some people will tilt their hips up as their leg takes the weight (as you suggest) but others will be lifting their hip to bring the trailing leg up. It's amazing how much if varies from walk to walk.

I'm not saying that you are wrong, just that it's never the same for each character & given the bulk of this guy I can feel from Jonas's pose that at that point he's throwing his upper mass over to help lift his leg.

I would say that given the size of his upper body I'd expect his torso/shoulders to be a smidge further to the (his) left)...

But a minor quibble for a fantastic image & model.

Amazing work Jonas.

A troll with a feline look. Reminds me of Panthro from Thundercats.

So great masterpiece as usual.

Sorry -I can't help it. Especialy the way its thumb-nailed.
I immediatly think of the vamps from Underworld when looking at that face.

You look a little feminine.
It is a classic contrapposto pose and he nailed it!
Please attend a figure drawing class.

Your right the hips need a bit more of an angel if you are comparing it to the standard reference http://emptyeasel.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/michelangelosdavid.jpg but there are others not as drastic. http://www.sandrashaw.com/images/AH1L15Krit2.jpg
