Hello everybody

After the critics you gave me in my last thread, that showed my very first face (Old Thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61720) ) I tried to improve now with my second face. This took me about some days now because I really put much effort in making eyes, nose, mouth and ears as realistic as I can. Please tell me if I improved, or not...

Started with texturing the eyes. Of cause still very WIP ;)
And also remember that this is just my second face so don't be too hard with me

jep you are making gread progress, make shure you can see some "rings" under the eye. Looks like its not standing out at the bottom. (If you dont get what I mean just give me a bell in ICQ)
The bones might be standing a bit to far out at the side (beside the eyes) and the head seems to fall back thin but all in all for your standard of modeling you had a month ago thats really good.

Oh yeah, the bones beside the nosewings are standig out a bit to much to and the lip seems to have dents on the outer parts.

Its coming along nicely. You might want to work on the ear a bit more as well as the mouth shape near the edges. :)

CANT, nice to see you stick with it and make remarkable progress. I think that you already have the technical side pretty much done, still the proportions are a bit off and maybe it would be a good idea to double check your references for this head.
Ifound a skull from another thread by Betelgeuse (thxs) and superimposed it with your head, and even though is not exactly the same angle, you still can see what's out of place. It is easier to comment on models if you post the front and side as well.
Keep on. great models.
But then again, that's me.

Thanks a LOT for comments and sorry for answering so late, I was away nearly all the weekend ;)

Hrm I wouldn't make the same mistake twice, so this time I sticked very close to some references I found on finearts.sk. So I don't really know what exactly is wrong with the proportions. Here are some wires and the refs:

http://www.josh.ch/phpmywebmin/_uploads/cANt/Side.jpg

What exactly is wrong with them?
l.a. akira gave me the advice to move down the vertices of the top head so it they are a little lower as they should be according to the reference. But beside that I tried to stick very close to it. Any advice? Would be more than helpful!

Before moving down the vertices the whole thing looks like this:

heej cant.. ,well you did.. a good job at first.. for one you got the topology right..

i would advice you to look at that thread to *topology*

but what is wrong i think.. is that..yes you followed the shame.. but not the depth of the face..

you have to guess.. caus pictures cant really show you..

you ca open the photo in photoshop..and put up the contrast to see wher the cheeks are etc..

now it she looks alien like *no offence* .. that is because her cheeks are getting ay back and some other things.. it is difficult to edit now.. but i advice you to try ,and dont give up.. look at some pics.. how a wmens face is.. dont follow this ref for a while.. than when you face is really human like..

than shape it to the character(reference you have)

im making myself.. here you can see my base mesh.. where i just edit loops later on to difine detail.. now im texturing ,thats on the last page.. , but the answer is.. work from a base mesh..

it is very helpfull .. make the face with no more polys than needed. and afterwords ad the detail.. an tweak some.. and tadaa!!

good luck with your model

The model I see is a starting point. You have followed your pictures. This is how most start a model that is intended to accurately describe a specific person. Though your forehead does not line up with your side pic, as with the ears from the front. The ear needing to come out more is a sign the the head actually is bigger behind the ears than you have it.

Your problems are:
back of the head,
forehead,
cheekbones,
upper lip area, where it meet the cheek

This is a great start. This shows your craft and your ability to control your model. The next thing you need is to *feel* the form. You have to know the form in your head and understand how front should transition to the side. 2D reference is never enough. Stand infront of the mirror. Feel how your skull changes across these areas. I would strongly suggest to any 3d artist: get out there and sketch more. Sit at a coffee shop, draw your friends, draw people, draw everything you ever want to model. Keep observing.

You've done a good job here. I want you to take it further. Post more pictures if you make any progress.

Hi there

Thanks a lot to you two, your critics were really helpful. I tried to follow all guidelines, you guys gave me and this is what I edited or at least tried to edit:

- Ears
- Cheeckbones
- Lips
- Forhead
- Chin

I hope it improved, somehow...
Yeah, doing a perfect done head is all about experience I personally think, and this is what I try to achieve at the moment. I pass nearly all my freetime with this stuff in order to improve and gain the necessary experience that you need. I read some of Steven Stahlberg's interviews and he said that it takes about years till you become really perfect, at least I will try and try and try ;) Controlling a thing out of 3 degrees of freedom is still a very new thing for an ex 2d-only artist

Comments and critics are as allways very welcome
