Hi,
I am very new to 3D having done a short course in Maya for 3 weeks in April. I am a product and graphic designer, specialising in footwear and learnt it for my own business. I of course now love it but have also found that I have been getting requests for freelance work. Up to now I have rejected them as I am still learning, quite slow and want to have a good portfolio and more experience first. What I am wondering is how long should jobs take, I know this is nearly an impossible question but let us take a photo-real modelling, texturing, lighting and render of a Jaguar XK? Just trying to get vague ideas about how quickly professionals within the industry work. Also wondering what kind of products are good to show a range within a CG portfolio. Am concentrating on products first but will move on to character in the future hopefully.
I am just setting up a portfolio, so far just one image going to be in it. The idea is to start with simple products and getting more advanced as they go. Any comments on them will be gratefully received as well as any advice etc....
Thank you to everyone.
