Title: Underneath It All!
Name: Maurizio Manzieri
Country: Italy
Software: Photoshop

This illustration was born for the awesome competition called 'Last Standing Man 3', organized by Cody Tilson at ConceptArt.org. The theme of the first Round was <Underneath it All!>.

It leaves me with another illustration and the rewarding atmosphere of interacting with other artists. The concept art for my work was a strange balance between flesh and metal: everything in the upper part is made of flesh or ordinary matter, while the lower parts slide in a mechanical Universe...moons are gears, the bottom of the ocean ticks under the waves...butterflies blend with their metallic counterparts... and the woman? What about the poem of her life? Is she becoming a human being or the world is turning into a robot habitat?

I think there's no reply. I like to fancy about alternate realities...

Here's the Making-Of-'Underneath It All!':

When I opend the butterfly, I didn't expect to see this beautiful lady. The Making-of is great.
Also the metalcostume design is super. But eh... it would remind me more of metal if is had more/sharper reflections.

Peraiia: Yeah! Thanks! I was looking for a softer effect... silver, maybe?

Next time I promise to be sharper... I keep enjoying a lot creating metallic garments...

Ow DOH! of course silver, forgotten about that, and also is silver easier to move;) (since it is a suite). But still, lovely picture.

Peraiia: Thanks again! I was thinking that perhaps I should have posted a less mysterious thumbnail for this illustration...:banghead: ...hmmm...

Ciao, Maurizio.
You have quite a good-looking lady here. :) It's not too late to change thumbnail if you want.

You have to do it from your 'manage gallery' page: select 'edit details' for the image and upload the new thumbnail, it will appear over here too.

Holy cow! I also didn't expect to see a beautiful lady after clicking on that butterfly thumbnail... it was a nice surprise! I vote not to change the thumbnail to give all curious members a certain surprise. :buttrock:

The silver costume is to die for! I want one of them! Where can I order one? ;) Really, I would love to have one. Haha! Artwise, awesome anatomy! I only can hope I could get to that point someday! For now, I'll admire you for your hard work in it. Great work! I definitely enjoyed getting lost in this one!

Thaldir: thanks for the useful info, pal...! I believed the initial choice was freezed forever!

DreamMaster: first of all...let me thank you for your kind words. I put a lot of work in this one... and while I was painting I thought: "Why do not launch a fashion house for robots?". I've been thinking a lot of scenes, even livelier, in a Universe where flesh boundaries are feeble and I can unleash my fantasy drawing dresses for cyber-models... brass, silver,steel...
it could be material for an artbook!

Edit: for anyone coming down with her/his eyes along this gallery, do not worry! Your memory isn't failing you and you didn't miss my girl! The first thumbnail for this illustration was a mysterious butterfly... too much traffic on the CG highway, so I've decided to unveil the real thing...

Hello Manzieri. A real good work, the girl's anatomy is fine and the global composition too.
Only one critique: I miss more shadows and lights contrast on the background. It looks too "plane" needs more depth.
Anyway a good work!

CMERINO: Thanks a lot for your comments. I understand what you mean... After reading your words I kept looking at my illustration and indeed twilight could have been darker, couldn't it?

As a second chance, what if she had been posing in a photo studio? ...the legs sunk in the water/oil below of this surreal Robot Studio and a painted cardboard all around her. At this point, her shadow could have been painted on the illusory background...

...drops of ideas from my frenzy mind...:arteest:
