Brazil's 1-button-wonder (skylight) is truly astonishing in its ease and quality. The speed's pretty good too. Which prompted me to ask in the first place. Put simply, I'm amazed at it. I've been using Mental Ray 2.1 all this while and have yet to try out v3, so maybe I'm off the mark. But . . . I'm speechless, although I'm not too sure about the amount of controls you get with the GI and photons.

I´m only an EXP user but have to say that the quality and speed of the MR integration kicks-ass :buttrock:
Render region and render tree rock. And all full integrated with the, in my mind, unsurpassed xsi workflow. It`s easy and complex at the same time.

I am an ex max user. and I have used both brazil and final render for renders,and I can say from expierience that mental ray can produce better results much quicker.Final render for max used to seem quite fast to me using hdri,however xsi 3.0 blows it away.:buttrock:

I don`t wanna start a sw war. It`s just a subjective opinion from a LW user who`s very impressed by XSI and MR.
But I agree that my answer is not very helpfull. I`m not familiar with Brazil or Final Render. :wavey:

i too would really like to get a Pro opinion on this one.

Ive only been dabbling in XSI, but i fell instantly in love. Problem is i KNOW max. It gets me there faster, cause im used to it. But im gradually making the move to XSi.

BUT: im also deeply in love with brazil. I think its easy to use, yields wonderful results with a minimum of fuzz.

I like fast results as im a freelancer: that is no renderfarm, and no expensive renderservers. So how do they compare?

pros and cons. For animation? How about stills? (i use brazil to make som stills for print-art, instead of hiring expensive photographers)

This might sound a little confused, but thats just because im abit tired so bear with me :)

I used to work on Max. I liked brazil. I liked MR. Brazil worked better.
Now I use XSI. I've learnt that one can't really use MR whitout a proper connection.

Brazil ensecured MAX's position in 3D world, and we have to admit, that MAX is a really effective production software.

ps.: I know some guys who can beat globillum in scanline. Knowing how to enlight a scene is a skill possessed by only a few.
