"...a sequel is being planned for the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS movie that came out three years ago. MATRIX producer Joel Silver will be overseeing the project via his Zinc Entertainment company along with Sweetpea Entertainment and Marching Band Productions. Sweetpea originally negotiated the film rights from TSR years back, then went on to make the live-action film that starred Justin Whalin, Marlon Wayans, Thora Birch and Jeremy Irons. "

So long as it turns a profit, some don't care about mistakes.

thats the thing , it didnt turn in any profit.
NOOOOO !!!!
That last film was dreadful :thumbsdow Bevely Hills 902134(whatever) meets Dragonheart
Damn they couldn't avoid that sickly sweet ending and bring back that deadcharacter for no apparent reason.
Directors and Producers of these sorts of films should be locked up for crimes against humanity

It obviously made something, otherwise they wouldn't waste their time/money. At least the producers I know wouldn't.
So, I am sure it made something back, especially since they do more than US sales :) and the DVD version, etc etc...
BTW, This wasn't a total waste of a movie. I think people have sort of been getting out of touch with what a movie is, an escape from reality. I don't go to movies to watch reality, that is what the news is for.

I really wanted to escape from this movie, instead. Ugh. :hmm:
Some stuff makes money on home video whether it sucks utterly or not..there's no accounting for taste, or lack of taste.

That's the point, I found this movie so jarringly anoying that I could'nt relax through it.
Like you say, I watch to be entertained (even if it does involve switching off my brain). There are very few movies I dislike, but this was one of them.

The movie was a bit crap, but I thought the DVD version was rather lovely. It had quite a few documentries.
I hope the second film turns out better the first. I have to admit that I liked the Dragons in it...:p

D&D is a great property from which a really bad movie was made. If Joel Silver simply gets another director and scriptwriter and takes the property in another direction, a sequel could be good. The first movie suffered from really bad directing and writing, not from anything wrong with the basic concept. I'm even going to chalk the bad acting up to an inexperienced director, because the actors and actresses themselves have shown that they can act well if given good material.

why don't they try something like Dragonlance? ...the story's fairly simple.
of course whenever George.R.R. Martin finishes his series that would make some killer films

Hehe D&D wasnt that bad. The visual effects were decent and the Mage had to use spell components. Normally only the toughest DM's make mages use Spell components hehe. The Sorcerrer didnt have to (Jeremy Irons) since they dont use em :P. Anyway enough geekiness I hope they make the sequel the great film it can be.

The first movie is what happens when a geek fan tries to be "creative"(the director), but has no talent to speak of. He was very passionate about the games, and wanted to make the film for many many years.
So, next time some geek fan starts mouthing off about how a film should be made of their favorite comics/books/games..etc, they need to remember that being a passionate fan doesn't automatically turn you into some kind of creative genius.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
There were a few things wrong with D&D, 1, the director 2, the cast.
the script was decent, and with the right director could have been really cool, cept some stupidity in it. the cast just didnt fit that type of a film.

I dont know who thought a wayan broher would be a good thief/bard or any kind of good character based in a fantasy world but that person needs to never do casting again. :)
