View Full Version : Texture Artist Reel
drewisgenki 06-20-2008, 08:11 PM Hi Everyone, I have just graduated with a B.F.A. in Game development and I would like to share my current demo reel. My concentration is texturing because that's what I really enjoy doing but all the models are mine also unless specified.
it can be found at http://www.drewharrison.net
I would really appreciate any feedback/commentary/criticisms/suggestions you have to offer!
- All the textures in the reel are hand painted except for the very last scene (photos were used)
Thank you
-Drew

drew i would suggest that you export your demo out for web, so it loads while its playing.

I have exported it for web... I can't figure out why it's doing that.

hey drew, just me again :D
You have some tallent, but you need to show case it a little better
the room is good, good breakdown.
The cow, i would say replace it with another, more interesting character. Make this your next project, make an orc or somthing bring it into zbrush and ramp up the textures and displacements. (good way to show off your modeling)
The ship... The textures are good on the ship, and thats what you did so thats a good point. But once again you could make such a more interesting ship, the one your using there is basically just a box. The more interesting the shape of the ship will really keep the viewers attention while also leaving you places for more texturing. Also think about how the ship would work. I know that sounds stupid but its human nature. People get off-putted when they see something that something couldnt physically work.
The gazebo, I would keep working on that scene, the textures might be good but its really hard to tell with the lighting. With that scene maya's new physical sun and sky would be a really good, for a fast lighting option. If you need pointers on how to use it, the maya rendering forums has a bunch of threads about it, also it seems like you know max bixly and he seems to know what hes doing!
I hope this helps
Keep up the hard work
-Mike
