Title: Nimhelith
Name: Tiziano Baracchi
Country: Italy
Software: Painter, Photoshop
A portrait I painted as a gift for my wife's birthday, that is today.
This is her character in a homebrew campaign, Nimhelith, an Elf archer who has been hideously scarred by a spell and hides the damage under an half-mask.
Nimhelith has kept us company for a few years, it was high time that she got her own portrait.
As usual, comments are welcome

Hi Thaldir, my first question is, where is 4 and last Zeron? Any way, this one has not usual point of view and that's what I like about it. 5* for hair work.

Great portrait Tiziano. Love the rich colours particularly on the glove. Very striking. If she isn't delighted with it I'd be very surprised!!
Stars.

Thank you, Coyotes. :)
Yes, this time I tried an unusual point of view, I think it was time to push my bundaries a bit on that regard.
The fourth Zeron...don't be afraid, she'll come :) But I wanted this one to be ready for yesterday (that was the B-day) and, from the reactions to 'water' I had the impression people would welcome a different subject, to break the risk of monotony.

Thaldir, I have noticed now when I look better on those closeups, that you have interesting skin and leather surface texture. Do you use some brush as overlay or how do you do this? But if it is your secret, I have no problem if you do not want to explain it.

No secrets at all, it's a very common technique: just many custom brushes used with different layer modes (Overlay, Soft light, Screen, etc.) :) .

Thaldir, now I know your secret, I will steel it from you and make my works even better!
I wish it was so easy! Have you ever tried to create some 3D models, or better to say, 3D characters? More work, harder it is, but I am sure you will make it.

3d sculpture ? Definitely fascinating... but there is so much to learn and days are still 24 hours  ! Hopefully sometime in the future, though... I'd love to find a mentor for 3D, I think the self-learning curve is rather steep.
One thing I'd like to try for starters is to try my hand at texturing a 3D model, I've read that some programs allow one to paint the texture directly on the model, I can't remember which, though.

Hi Tiziano, a cool work, the textures and her eyes are really fine. Congratullations!

Thaldir, program that allows you to paint on to 3d model is Zbrush, really great program, BUT it is better to render in some other 3D program like Max, Maya of Softimage. I use 3D max, and if you would like to try to make texture to a model I can help you with that, actually I will do one 3D fairy soon, and you could help me with it, if you are interested, we will continue this discussion threw private mail. You have great ideas, and sometime I know what I want to do but do not know how it should look like.

Carlos, thank you so much! :)
Wow,Coyotes that's a deal!
In a few days I've a contract starting (I'm waiting for the briefing anyday now) but after that I'm your man!

The level of detail is amazing in this one, Tiziano! I'm repeatedly amazed with how fantastic your stuff is getting. And jealous, of course! In terms of work flow, do you chug right through a piece, start to finish? Or do you have to stop and start various pieces, due to deadlines?
I just love the delicacy of the features and the hair. Wow, individual strands...and the textures are spot on. We're not worthy!

Thank you, Cris! what a wonderful comment  .
With regard to workflow, with very few exceptions (for instance during Challenges) I try to paint each piece from start to finish, I'm not really good at multi-tasking, art-wise.

C'è una cosa che mi piace sempre molto nei tuoi lavori Tiziano... il respiro..
il mio sguardo si perde, viaggia nei tuoi tratti che mi raccontano di posti mai visti..
Never stop U

Grazie Gabriele! This is one of the greatest compliments I've been paid ever. I hope my works will continue to tell stories and invite the viewers to travel in and with them, I can only keep trying...
Thank you.

Hi, Tiziano!
I see the image's been posted about 2 months ago, but I guess its never late for a compliment. This is an outstanding work. You've made the character really come out of the screen - the perspective is great and the anatomy of the movement is wonderful.
Also its always interesting to get some background info on the character.
Good job!

Thank you very much Ilya!
I know her fairly well, since I think she is the character my wife has played the longest, but indeed I find almost impossible to paint a character if I know noting about him/her besides the physical description.
How many characters for instance could be 'big and burly with heavy jowls a scar on the nose and unruly black hair' ? Would he be a thug, a retired adventurer turned inn-keeper, a prize-fighter, a game-keeper, a caravan guard...? The possibilities are endless and so is the general demeanor, the look in his eyes, the nuances of expression and posture... give me a detailed history of the character over a detailed physical description any time :)

The pleasure is all mine :)
Good approach! At least, in my opinion. Every character I paint, first I get into his personal history and background, the world he or she lives in. Without it the work seems hollow. I see this kind of interaction and study of the character in your portfolio - they all have history and it's very good and very important.
