View Full Version : Blending modes using hidden layers
erveloso 06-19-2008, 04:09 PM Hi,
Is it possible to use a blending mode based on a hidden layer? I want to make a layer with a png image (with alpha channel) to show some highlights based on a video, but I don't want this video to be shown in the final render. Can it be done?
Thanks!

I don't quite follow. Think of it: How would you blend invisible pixels? It's a mathematical impossibility (or contradiction in terms, if you will). What you want can certainly be done somehow, but logic dictates that it will require using duplicates and pre-compositions rather than attempting to do it al lin one main comp. Dunno what the exact shapes look like, but it certainly should be possible by using the PNG as an additional matte on the original footage, adjust the range by cropping/ resizing the pre-comp or using masks and then applying those pre-comps with the blendmode.

Thanks Mylenium, I'm trying to find a plugin now. Maybe something that can apply a video as a material into a 3D (layer) object.

I still don't understand what you are triying to achieve. If you want to post-apply textures to rendered footage, you need to generate a UV(W) pass from your 3D program, then use RevisionFX RE:Map plugin set to align it. This requires to work in 16bpc and 32bpc, so most likely your PNG will be unsuitable and whatever you have doen so fart may require re-rendering parts of your footage. It also requires your objects to have proper UV sets so the mapping actually shows up in the UV pass.
