View Full Version : Rundle Mall TV Commercial - "4 Seasons"
hugh29 06-19-2008, 07:39 AM Check out our latest TV commericial for Rundle Mall (http://www.cityofadelaide.com.au/scripts/nc.dll?ADCCBRAND:STANDARD:%3Cimg%20src=%22images/smilies/tongue.gif%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%22%20title=%22stick%20out%20tongue%22%20smilieid=%226%22%20class=%22inlineimg%22%20/%3Ec=PC_39), Adelaide's (Australia) fresco-styled shopping district.
We used Maya 8.5, After Effects 6.5 and a whole lotta photoshop!
The client wanted us to create a 3D animated commercial featuring a shopper strolling down Rundle Mall with the seasons and fashions changing around her, all in one continuous moving shot!
Much of the visual inspriation came from the work of Japanese illustrator, Tadahiro Uesugi (http://www10.big.or.jp/%7Etuesugi/). As for the star of the commercial, see if you can guess who the red-headed Aussiewood actress she is partly based on!

I find it very intriguing and fun, seeing a woman walking through town, with different clothes during a certain time of day, visually inviting and fun.
I adore the technique you used for this mini commercial short.
This has given me a bit more inspiration, thank you.

Hey guys,
thanks for all the great comments. The animation wasn't created at a HD resolution, just 1024 x 576. But for those of you who are keen, i have put up a 5mb h.264 *.mov version you can download at:
http://rapidshare.com/files/123693347/0802_RM_h264_QT.mov
as for the girl, here's a hint: she's married to Borat ;)

Yeah the girl was completely animated by Brodie McCrossin with most of the background characters animated by Daniel Kmet, I was working on another project but I ended up doing a couple of characters as well (kids chasing leaves (and leaves) and the guy that hands the girl the flower).

This probably won't ad anything, but great job. I loved the transitions during the seasons. The flow of which was just very nice. I did sometimes lose track of how the lady was moving, there was just so much to see in the background. I'll just have to wtch it 5 times oh poor me :P

If memory serves me correct, the music was done by an Australian studio called Song Zu, which does a lot of music for big TVCs as well as music for Australian TV series.

Hey everyone,
Thanks heaps for your comments and questions. In regards to the hair controls for Ginger, we used an external contractor Alexey Petryaev, to model and rig Ginger. She was design here at the pra but we needed some extra hands and Alexey did a great job of the rig.
I'll ask our TD, Aaron to go into further detail on the hair controls.
Cheers
