(http://assets.cgsociety.org/nvart/59319_1213806631/1024bound)With 'Fused' my aim was to interpret the brief on multiple levels, deepen the relationship and understanding between my dual passions for graphic design and CGI, and to blur the boundaries between the two.
A few points about the concept and workflow.
On one level 'Fused' is a piece of promotional graphic design. The 'D-D Fuel Cycle' reference is a nod to the product in this scenario, a small home fusion reactor. Visual cues to this effect being the hollow of the 'd' representing the magnetic containment chamber for the actual fusion process, the glowing energy tracks coming in from the left and right representing the power input, and the web of tracks emanating from the logotype the household grid being fed by the power generated.
On another, more simple level 'Fused' is about how 2D design and 3D design can be fused into something more powerful that their constituent parts.
Finally I also just wanted to create something sleek and beautiful, with a strong technology slant.
The word 'Fused' is a custom logotype which I first developed as a 2D vector and then brought into my 3D package. The wall texture was also developed first as a vector and subsequently processed heavily as a bitmap. The challenge here was keeping all the assets scaled and oriented across the various mediums. I also started using techniques and methodologies in my 3D package which I normally reserve for use in my vector programs.
Well I think I have waffled on long enough.
I hope you enjoy it...
