The painting technique for what is done so far works well I like the transition of lights and darks to achive detail.

However, I feel that the pose is very stiff. (is he/she a threatening foe or whimsical) I guess threatning because of it's color scheme .

upon second a look I think that the root of the problem lies in the back where the lower part of the tricep joins the spined back.
.....seems too abrupt. ( the distance from tricep to middle of back)

I know at this point changing the back would be a horrendous task so I'd suggest finishing what you started and redoing him taking more physical form in mind.
Komodo dragon and a salamander is what comes to mind.
