View Full Version : Animation Codec Issues

Hello,
So I've got a problem. I'm putting together this animation using only After Effects, I tried rendering out as Animation Codec (or any uncompressed video codec) however whenever I do that it only plays about a second of the video and just stops, the quicktime timeline still moves across, but no video plays.

I have a 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2Gb of ram and I'm using OSX 10.5. I'm pretty sure I have the computing power to play uncompressed codecs. The file I'm working with is 1280x720.

I tried rendering out with PNG and it played at half the frame rate, and any other codec has really bad banding in the gradients.

Is there anything I can do to fix the problem?

Thanks

Theres a lot more in encoding than just applying 'any other codec'.
Post your bitrate settings.

And 'uncompressed' isn't a codec.

Most certainly not. You are confusing "lossless" compression (at the binary level, not visually) with real uncompressed. And then again it becomes a matter of how it's sold to you - even "Apple Uncompressed" is has a lossless compression implemented and tries to reduce redundancies to minimize file size. There are very few CoDecs out there that qualify as uncompressed in the strict technical sense. anyway, to the matter at hand: sounds like you are using an iMac and considering their weak graphics systems, playback issues are to be expected. I recommend you turn off hardware acceleration in Quicktime's settings and see if it avoids the frame going blank after a while. I also don't think your disk is fast enough to read the frames, hence the lag with other CoDecs as well.
