I was thinking of getting Painter 8 for textures/decals. But anyone use Painter for textures? Any tips? Or should I stick with PShop?

I haven't used Painter for a while, but I got alot of good work out of it. If you want to paint some naturalistic textures it's a great choice and it has some really good painting on video features. It has some really great features. I'd say that it's big problem is that it crashes alot more than Photoshop and it's input/Output features are far behind Photoshop's. Hope that helps.

Thanks! But can you can you create a file that you can use as a texture map or decal in AM? Like you do in PSHop? I remember earlier versions of Painter couldnt use alpha channels. Now it can. I have PShop but I want to get Painter to create better textures because of the natural media brushes.

Thanks--

I was disappointed with Painter 8 and haven't upgraded (Still on 6) as it STILL doesn't export TGA's with alphas.

There are many export formats that any paint package can use. I'm sure if Painter doesn't export to it directly you can convert it in another package.

I just checked Corels website. I downloaded their pdf and it says that P8 supports alpha channels and native PSD files with layers. It looks like P8 should be able to export a tga file with alphas? Anyway to make sure?
Thanks-
