I have a copy of 4D XL 8 that I am currently running on 98 SE. I am planning to upgrade to XP and was curious about any potential problems I might encounter. I mean, does 4D XL 8 even run on XP?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yup...it sure does run it, i am running R8.1 and win xp pro, and the only problems i have are with memory...not enough....but the OS and c4d work great together.

It should run a helluva a lot better actually.

Why wouldn't it run in XP? It'd be more likely to not work in 98 SE.

(I'm using XP and C4D 8.1.)

Thanks everyone!

Demonslayer, you hit the nail on the head, it runs really poorly in 98 SE!

Hopefully, with my new computer, XP and about 2GB of RAM, I can really do some quality work!

I've got a perfectly fine 8.1 on my 98SE - no problems at all. Why should it run poorly?

Hey, WinXP is the only option to use "hyperthreading" on a P4 with Cinema (simulating two processors while rendering). It works without any problems on our machines here...great effort, saving 30%rendertime with hyperthreading turned on.

don't even hesitate to change to xp if youre using 98...
i use xp pro and c4d fine...no probs...

(my only probs i'm having is tracking down an old plugin which is causing a conflict when i shut down cinema.....:bounce: )

Because 98 is poor

win2k is a sensible minimum for anyone.

So very true. I'm running 8.1 on a P4-3.06GHz w/HT enabled. My speed gain is the same. It's darn near uncrashable on XP. To be honest, I've only had it crash twice in the past several months. Those crashes were likely plugin related.
