Title: Savage Kitty
Name: Jean-Francois Beaulieu
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop

Hi all!

Been a while since I uploaded anything here. Anyway, this is my latest piece- just did this one for fun and practice, as always. Started the initial sketch over a year ago, but I hadn't touched it since last week, when I had a bit of spare time.

I'm really trying to move away from the lineart, and into a more painterly style, but I'm having a real hard time with that. As a result, I'm not too satisfied with how this one came out. I feel the overall look is a bit amateurish, and the brushwork lacks style and confidence. Also, I have to keep working on anatomy, but that's another matter. ;)

With that being said, I'd greatly appreciate any critiques, comments, tips and ideas! I've been looking at some tutorials by Matt Dixon, as well as working on some custom brushes, so I have a vague idea what direction to go in next time around.

Anyway, here are some details on the piece....
All done in Photoshop CS2, with Wacom tablet, using only the default round hard-edge brush (and a bit of the "grass" brush, obviously ;)). Used various reference for body parts and general anatomy. Not really sure how long it took... Probably around 10 hours.

Thanks!
-JF

I'm an amateur and I wish my stuff looked half this good! I love the ogre's head, great job. I wish you hadn't said anything about the grass brush, now all I see is that. I have to say that she must swing with her chest muscles, they seem to be the most developed part of her musculature ;)

I think you're being a bit hard on yourself - this is a wonderful painting, and the style and palette are absolutely gorgeous and it's is brimming with character. Phil

Awesome work Bro! :D
I love her character and pose! Also great palette and brushes you've used! Actually i don't find those dragons disturbing, i guess they're necessary to keep the image balanced!
Btw, nice portfolio indeed! Keep it up!

Love it, very stylish and amusing to look at, I know you're trying to transition but this is a really cool style right on this piece. Maybe do some more of the same?

And paint what you want to when you want to, don't mind too much the people telling you anything about your art subjects. They're entitled to their opinions but art is from within and something that you enjoy doing... whatever that is! 5* from me!

This is fantastic!

I usually hate fantasy style art, but i can make an exception with this. The posing, shading and composition is excellent. Nice proportions and colour pallette too.

My only crit is that she looks as if shes looking down her boobs for some reason, and like others have mentioned, i think the grass looks a little sparse, uniform and repetitive...

Great work - keep em coming - i love all the pieces in your portfolio.
