Hello,
Please, allow me to take time out of your busy schedule and introduce myself, my name is Sean Bellinger and I am a 2D/3D animator, modeler, and motion graphic artist holding a degree in animation art and design. However, I'm not limited to just animation and modeling, I have skills in non-linear editing, audio editing, compositing, and some graphic design skills. I have a list of the software with which I am familiar on my resume.
I also have 15 years of photography experience, 7 years of professional management experience, and 5 years of sales and marketing experience.
I feel I have alot to offer in terms of experience and skills as well as a willingness to continue learning and increasing my skills.
I'm looking to grow with an industry leading company and I strive or excellence. I'm goal oriented and work extremely well with other team members.
Also, I work well with or with out supervision and I have natural leadership abilities.
I respectfully offer my resume for you to review and I have a portfolio and demo reel available upon request. Again, thank you for your time.

One of my main goals for the last seven years has been the simulation of natural physical behavior such as skin dynamics and such, but also particularly the principles of follow-through and anticipation. Not that there isn't more to learn, but I'm always willing.
I worked at Foundation on Star Trek, Mystic Knights, Dan Dare, Max Steel, and Troopers, and while it's true that we used a lot of mo-cap, we also did a lot of hand keying. I really regret that I picked up that stigma. It's been hard to convince people that I actually do love to animate.
I hope that I can somehow be of use to you. I'm hard working, try to solve my own problems, make the best of my shots, and am always willing to take criticism.

Some have been replying directly to this forum instead of using the private email button. Since my army of minions are looking over the repsonses that came by email and setting up interviews, etc., most of the stuff going directly to this forum page will be overlooked. Tragic, since pages like dan ritchie's stuff look very promising. So if you are interested in working at Gentle Giant, please use the private email function so that your info will be forwarded.

After seeing several hundred demo reels, I thought I would share a few tips from the person doing the viewing/sorting.

1>Say what you did. Many reels just show footage from a movie leaving us to guess what the person's involvement was. "So you put Ben Affleck in makeup and costume, lit him, set up the camera, blew up a plane behind him, developed the film...." If you can't do an overlay of text explanation, please include a paper shot breakdown. Try to do it on the tape though. It demonstrates your ability to communicate visually. You don't go into a movie with a piece of paper explaining what you are seeing. And it is hard for 2,3,or a dozen people to look at a reel while one person tries to read aloud the breakdown and keep up with the video.

2>Get to the point. We don't need to see your name fade in and out for 45 seconds before your reel starts. We don't have 45 seconds to spare, and you will be fast-forwarded, possibly passing up vital imagery.

3>Read the ad and reply if you fit. An ad for modelers should not trigger compositors to send in a reel.

4>Find out about the company and tell us your life's passion is to do exactly what we do. Blow smoke up our a!#. If you send in a letter saying you want to be or do something we don't do, your reel will be tossed aside.

5>A demo reel is not a rock video. Don't send a five minute movie unless you are the next David Fincher. You will be fast-forwarded to the reject pile. If you think you ARE the next David Fincher, have some humility because we need to find out your technical skills apropos to the job listing. Even Fincher's gonna get fast-forwarded if he does not get to the point.

6>Get to the point. If you are applying for a modelling position the ideal reel would include a turnaround showing the object in wireframe, shaded, then maybe also textured if you are good at textures. If you are not, leave them off. Never show anything bad.
If you modeled from drawings or other reference, try and explain that.

7>Never show anything bad. I'm more likely to call you if I see one good thing rather than one good thing and eight bad things. If you don't know how to effectively light and render an object, leave them grey. It is hard to tell if your model is decent if it looks like it was rendered by Corel Dream 3D.

8>Stick with VHS. It is simply the standard for Hollywood job seeking. Any other format puts a burden on the viewer and may fall through the cracks. "This guy sent a CD-ROM. Do you want to look at it later?"

9>No more tanks please.

10>Remember in art school when they said that Picasso proved he could do photo-realistic poitraits BEFORE he started painting abstract shapes? Try showing a realistic human before churning out alien demons that could look like anything and nobody knows if it is right or not. You are not communicating anything by twisting a shape around and adding teeth and horns.

11>No one creates in Hollywood. Well, OK, a couple of people do, like Stan Winston or Ralph McQuarrie and a handful of others. Your job and the thousands of the rest of us minions is to execute their concepts with precision and invisibility. Sorry to dissapoint, but showing something cool is less important than showing something "ON MODEL."

IMHO

Please count me in to be considered.

I'm trying to get out of web design which I've been doing for 3 years and go full time into modeling/texturing. My portfolio site should indicate my abilities. I'll be visting LA in August and anticipate moving in September. I can send my demo reel in 2 weeks (when its done) if you'd like to see more work.

Thanks,

Steven Swanson
