To Be honest with you I really and truly like to model in AutoCAD alot more than Max, but I like the materials and the Lighting options of Max. I run into a problem though. I have a hard time seperating entities within an object in max that I have created in AutoCAD. For Example. I can model all my walls in Autocad and they are all in fact seperate walls. But when imported into Max all of the walls are considered one object, well sometimes the mapping needs to be different on a section of the wall and not on the other section. but after i do one modifier to a particular part, if i go to modify to total object again, it will disrupt the changes that I made to the first set of walls. This is driving me crazy. because then at that time I could concentrate more on applying materials and lighting than trying to learn how to model in Max ya know.
any help will be appreciated

I think you need to hang in there and practice with Max modelling tools. Switching to another application can be very hard, but modelling in one and texturing in another is not the best solution.
Max's modelling tools are definitely up to the task, I guess you just have to get used to it.

If you truly need your models to be precise to the millimeter you could make the 2d plans in autocad, and import those in Max. Using the 2.5D snap you can easily trace the spline for walls for example, and give them depth with an extrude modifier.
I assume that you are using Max for doing graphic work (duh), which most likely means you are not needing that kind of precision.

If you want different walls to have different mapping coordinates you can best detach the polygons of those walls so that it is indeed a seperate object.

Ok i will try that, because I really really really like the modeling features of Max, but I am worried about the scaling of drawings, and it has me nervous, I wish that I could just do the modeling in Max and the texturing and lighting in max as well, that would be great. but I have never been able to separate the objects and modify them seperately yet, and im talking about after like 5,6,7, hours or so. I just got the 3Dmax5 Bible, and am trying to use my software documentation as well. but its pretty thick in there

If you are going to attempt to switch from autocad to max, you can still make everything to scale. I haven't used autocad in a long time, but from what I remember, you can model in a very similar way.
#1. Setup your units in the customize pull down to whatever unit measurement you'd like to use (meters, feet/inches, etc.).
#2. Import some blueprints onto a flat plane.
#3. Draw your wall lines, using splines, seperate walls are seperate splines
#4. Extrude the splines to the desired height.

Once you get that down, you should be well on your way to modeling a decent architectural scene.
