Hello hello!

I'm modeling a lamp where the bulb is covered by a colorful translucent plastic shade. Below are pictures of said lampshade.

My problems come when trying to make the material for the shade. First off, I'm working in Mental Ray, and the scene is set up in a typical studio lighting scenario - skylight with final gather turned on, etcetera.

I can't seem to get this thing to work. I really don't know a lot about mental ray and shaders, sss, etcetera, so I've tried things but can't get any good results, for the lampshade OR the bulb. I just don't know how best to do this.

Help me out, please? I have dabbled a bit with Architectural materials and Fast-SSS materials for the shade, and a big glowy arch material for the bulb - I also tried a Glow (fume) shader in a mental ray material for the bulb. The thing is, I've tried these out because I've heard they work, but I don't really get *how* to make these things work for me. I've been tweaking spinners for a while, but I think my problem is more that I don't really know how, beyond the basics, to get what I want. Randomly tweaking spinners isn't enough.

What's the best way to get what's in the pictures?

Show your results that we could see the problem.
