The only possible way would be a plugin that generates something that looks like 3D, but it wouldn't accept a TGA, it would only accept raw text or possibly EPS files. However I dont know if there is such a plug.. sorry :hmm:

The Boris stuff does the extruded text look you're after.

It's 2.5D....meaning that you can rotate objects in 3d space all you want, but you're still only rotating a flat plane.

They most likely created 3D objects in a real 3D program, c4d, max, maya, xsi, lw, whatever, rendered them out to bitmap images and imported those as a clip. (trying to be as clear as I can :D)

I'm not sure if I undesrtood you right but here goes

I think the best way to do 3D stuff is using a 3D app (XSI,Maya,S3D,LW,Max...), but if all you need is a extruded text you can use Zaxwerks Invigorator 3D for AE wich is a plugin that accepts 3D objects and extrude vector files into 3D space, is pretty good for simple stuff, if things start to get a little to bit fancy go for a 3D app.

I hope that helps,
See Ya!
