Hello, I'm trying to get the best compression for a video that i will then put into flashMX and make interactive. The resolution is 512 x 368. I also need a smooth frame rate (keyframe interval i think). So far i've had the most luck with quicktime jpeg and sorenson set to low. The compression is bad but i can live with it. The video is about 5 seconds long (165 frames). So far i've gotten it down to about 2 megs. Can anyone here suggest a better compressor to use? Or what compressors do you generally use when size is a big factor?

Well, iīm working with Sorenson-SueezeMX and it really rocks.

I recommend definitly to render in *.flv (FlashVideoFormat). In size itīs the same as *.swf or *.mov, but playback performance is many times better.

For size, how big do you want it maximum to be ?
Maybe take 3 wishes for Size: Supersmall, OK, and the MaximumSize it should have

Take your wish-size in kbit and divide it by the time in second.
So you get the DataRate per second (this settings are Video- and Audio- Rate together).
Now You subtract the wished dataRate for the sound (if no sound, then you donīt need this step of course).

And now, if you render your stuff with that dataRate, you should get the wished dataSize.

@Sleepyoreo

Mpeg2 in Flash: I tried it many times, itīs possible, but definitly not practicable. Size of the *.fla and * *.swf are many, many times bigger than the original Mpeg2

i ended up going with sorenson compressiono (quicktime) at mid quality setting in afterFX then 90% quality when i imported to flash, it's decent and only about 1.3 megabytes. I was basically trying to keep it under 2 megabytes without causing too many artifacts. Could u give a little more info about this *.flv format? Is this an export format from flash?

Itīs an import format, which can, as fa as i know, only be generated with sorenson-Squeeze ( www.sorenson.com )

In flash you handle it like it would be an *.swf.
It rocks for fast and fluid animation, especially because of the great playback performance.

Sorry, i canīt say mor, my project deadline ends in maybe 3 or 4 minutes

mpeg2? most players dont handle anything else than mpeg1.. mpeg2 is for dvd's and usually requires a dvd playing software.. or Media Player Classic (http://www.gabest.org/mpc.php) (the worlds best player ;))

I tried Mpeg2 in Flash just because Mpeg2 can only play in special Player.

My thing was to try to export it as *.exe or maybe *.swf but as mentioned before, i got huge, huge data files (fla, swf & exe)

well..they do have that strange and not so well organized technology which makes it possible to play those mpg2 files ...
i know this sounds weird but i can try and sniff abit to get more detalis about the tech things..but i still wonder if it has to do with somthing in the output settings which i am doing wrong...

Sorenson Squeeze is the way to go!
Use the flv format (Flash video) or encode direct in swf files the compression rates and the file sizes are pretty amazing, you can achieve pretty good results this way, just make sure that your master video file (the one that you will encode) is in a good resolution and quality like QT PhotoJPG, MotionJPG, Animation.

My 2 cent's!
I hope this helps...
See Ya!

hiho
well, to get a good compression in sorenson squeeze, i would not compress the source-movies to extreme.

we worked a lot with squeeze.. it's the only way to get a good compression in flash, but the look of the video is really bad, imho

if u have more question just post it in the forum

cheers

I use Sorenson 3, set to high quality. It usually yields fairly low file sizes and looks good as well. It definatly better than just regular Sorenson.

If you want to use Quicktime, the only codec worthy of using is the one called "MPEG4" in QT6, it's almost on par with DivX, and beats the living hell out of sorensen :D

yeah, but he needs flash, so the only way to compress the videos for flash is squeeze... there is no other way...
