View Full Version : 3DS/Blender/Zbrush question.
mike9019 06-13-2008, 09:35 PM Ok I model my base in 3DS, but i perfer to unwrap in Blender as an .OBJ (so much easier), but i just learned it last night. now before i go into the trial and error process. can anyone point me to a tutorial or maybe, be so kind as to write the steps it will take me too. To take the .OBJ already map from blender back into 3ds and retain the UVWs so that when i normal map them in Zbrush(which I be teaching my self) the texture will fit without me having to recut them in MAX.
thank you in advance.

Really the only thing you could do is export to OBJ format from Blender preserving the UV's if that's an option.
You're actually making this way more difficult than it really is by exporting from Max to Blender.
Max has a good UV system.
Just take an hour out of your night and learn Max' UV tools.
Unwrapping in Max is pretty straight forward from what I remember.
Most people wouldn't do it that way, so you probably won't get a response from someone with the exact steps on how to go about it that way.
Same for a tutorial, there might not be one since most people wouldn't export from Max to Blender for UV's.
What's happening is that you're creating much more work and possible aggrevation by trying to make the task of unwrapping easier.
So you're defeating the purpose of it.
It would be so much easier to cut out the middle man here(Blender) and just go from Max to Zbrush and back again.
