Here's a good one... For some reason Maya is saving my files as these huge ass 8-10 meg files. There's only 2 poly models at 5500 poly's total. What gives? Help!

Have you tried to Optimize your scene?
File > Optimize Scene Size > Option Box
Are you saving it as a Maya Ascii or Maya Binary?

also delete the history on those models... this will shave most of that size off

I had a ton of crap in my hypergraph. It's gone now. The scene optimizer works good as well.
