Maxon started betatesting Bodypaint for Maya.

Any comment?

i think that is smart.

not many alternatives for 3d paint on osx.

as well as it may be more affordable then the alternatives on windows.

sales are sales.

Just curious, how do you know that?

Iīd rather hear about Bodypaint R8 for Cinema  - but thatīs cool - Lightwave, Max and Maya. When will BP be available for XSI then?

why?
i thought maya already had something built in to do stuff like that...paint tools or something...?

(with pit on this much rather see a R8 updated funky kick ass new version for c4d though)

LW has that aurora program....im pretty sure thats the name...

maya does have built in 3d paint that is an extention of paint efx.

but a nice external 3d app can sometimes be a benefit or offer other features - that explains deep paint quite well... but unfortunately not available on the mac.

Bodypaint for Maya??? What a waste of time. Maya's built in 3d paint already has better UV mapping tools and it has projection paint. Why would anyone pay for this?

It is true that Maya has better UV mapping tools. But Bodypaint has better real media painting tools, add multilayer capacity and layer in layer capacity (Like Photoshop in a 3D app.).

And Raybrush painting--sweeet.

Maya have already DeepPaint 3D and DeepUV by Right Hemisphere (here (http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/) )

There is also a new version for Cinema4D ?

Yep, Raybrush is nowhere outside Bodypaint.

Raybrush means U can see the raytraced vers. of your textured model right in the viewport when painting.

If they are making a Maya connection prolly they want to challenge DeepPaint and prolly they have their reasons for doing this. Plus prolly Bp won't remain Bp 1.0 forever, they've already updated some modules (like they did with HDRI in Advanced Render) so sooner or later they'll update Bp too

sorry guys don't want to sound like a complete noob loser...but raybrush is what exactly...?
thanks.

Raybrush is Maxon's rendering technology that allows you to paint directly on a model using any combination of channels (multi-channel brushes) in full raytraced glory. It's like painting a 3D texture onto a rendered image and seeing the changes take place in real time. Actually that's exactly what it is. :) You almost have to see it to believe it.

mind blowing...seems everything 3d ultimate goal is real time anything...to cool.

bet you need a beefy system though....is this what we are getting in bodypaint 2003 update maxon???? heh heh.

you gotta check it out

I also just used raybrush mode together with the multibrush option (painting for example on the colour channel and the relief at the same time) two days ago this was a real hot 3d expirience - yeah hot - not to say sexy : )

and now add in jenna2's displaceview, so that you can see your displacement maps in the raybrush view...:applause: :applause: :applause:

now if only they'd fix the dratted wacom bug and give us shader trees.

The raybrush feature works in realtime ( at least 10 fps) on a lowly 400mhz imac.

Rather impressive i'd say ;)

I doubt that raybrush will work well with displaceview. Not too sure though someone would have to try it.

Uhm do note guys that they are not just looking for maya testers, they are looking for max and LW too. But LW and max already have connections, so obviously things are being updated :)

As for why add it to maya, same reason so many maya users use deeppaintthe maya tols are not wel set up and such. The UV tools maybe great in maya, but maybe the paint aren't, and projection paint liekly only supports painting ot much more. Fact is that Deeppaint gets a lot of business, and are maxon's main ompetitor in that area. I"m sure they are expanding their horizon's sipmply to compete with deeppaint in all arena's not just max and Lw.

I tried it this morning (quickly with the demo of J2) and it seemed to work perfectly--you could see the displacements in the raybrush view and paint directly on them.

But is it changing the displacement? YOu say painting on them, well thats cool, but I thought you were talking about actualy painting the displacement itself in reatime.

ah, gotcha. just tried that. it doesn't displace in real time, but if you paint on the displacement layer you can see it in the texture view, and when you refresh the rayview, you can see your painted displacement. displacing in real time would be very cool...

yeah raybursh works fine for me and I am using a cruddy old 500 mhz Imac.

raybrush does rock.

one thing you could possibly do is to paint the bumps and diffusion both at once using multibrush. That way you would have a pretty good idea of what was happening.

Appereantly you dont use maya :)

maya's 3d paint tools are nowhere near deep paint and body paint , also it doesnt have projection paint. Comparing the two are like comparing cars to penguins.

As a long time maya user I am glad Maxon is working on a BP to Maya connection.

JIII
05-23-2003, 07:41 PM
forget you maya users, we need ngons instead. lol

edit I meant to say shader tree, ohh well. Yeah a major update to BP3D would kick some serious butt.

Ahh I disagree JIII what are you going to paint your ngon models with?

BP is a great app that hopefully will be even better.

I don't use it, but the animators on my team do. I've seen the Alias-Wavefront sales rep demo the projection paint feature, so I know it's there. I belive they call it "screen projection" in Maya.
