A few months back I was in need of a way to export C4d files to LW, so I posted a request in the forum at PluginCafe.

David from Greenbriar studios responded (he's a LW plugin developer) and mentioned that theres a plugin in the works:

--------------------------------------------------

What I'm working on is basically a low end fbx type system, so I can interchange models between many apps - including Poser models with all their morphs and textures - great low cost models, but hard to import with their full feature set. I import them now into Lightwave and I want to do full export/import to other apps.

Current LW tools - www.GreenbriarStudio.com/3D

David

He then added this:

Other than the Poser tools, I want to make have rigged model interchange between LW, C4D, Carrara, Maya and DAZ Models. I started these tools because I wanted to use some of the great off the shelf models that were available for some programs (just never mine). There are tools available for transfer between high end apps, but not between low and high end and the low end tools are where most of the commercial models are. There is not much for sale for the high end tools, models there are mostly custom (and very expensive).
I'm starting the C4D tools this weekend, any suggestions for C4D tools are welcome. And you can always contact me through my website.

David

What do you guys think about this?

This is sort of what fbx promises, but the Poser thing could be helpful to some users. Check out his site, he has a bunch of lW plugs--perhaps he could turn out to be another C4d developer?

I think what David is doing is creating a plugin module that c4d can utilize to export to lightwave from c4d (using an fbx-like format), as well as import from Poser and other low end apps. His plugs are MacOSX compatible too.

JoelD: personally i think it absolutely kicks ass...when i bought c4d i couldn't believe it was such a pain in the as getting models, textures, lights between the various packages....then someone told me hey...c4d is good compared to some...so i shut up after that...compared to 2d world...3d worlds has got a lot to learn imho....that said...sounds very useful...and judging by his costs on other plugins...probably worthy of an investment.

top result all round
