I am trying to rig the forearm of a bison and need a little help.

Here is a picture of my bone set up and the bones of an actual bison.

Currently I have an IK going from bone D to E and another one from F to G. The hoof is a seperate chain and it parented to H.

I have been doing some motion tests and this seems acurate for the movement of a bison leg but I don't know if I need an IK from C to D. Heck, maybe I don't need an IK's at all.

I have been studing video of bison walking and it seems like the bones C D and E barely move if any at all.

Does anybody have any experience rigging a bovine type animal like this and know where to put the IK's or if I have my bones all screwed up?

Any direction is most appreciated!

After doing some more research I have come up with this for the forearm

I have an IK from B to C and then from C to D to deal with the movements of the upper hip area. They don't move that much but when they do this seem to make it easier to control.

I parented the B to C to the C to D so that the top part can only move down when the spine is moved. The other IK's seem to be self explanitory. My question is, is it proper to have an IK going down two bones and another going from inside that to another bone like I have in this thigh rig? Or is there a better way to do it?

I would run a solver from D to F instead. Get rid of the extra little bone at the ankle and use two one bone solvers on F and H.

Paul thank you so much for your help.

Now I am a little confused. I made two examples of what I am thinking you told me to do. Then I looked at your bull rig and I may be off. I can't tell where you placed the IK's in there.

On the left example I have a chain from C to E and two one bones chains from F to G and G to H.

Then on the right one I have a chain from D to G another one from F to G and another from G to H.

In your bull rig it looks a bit different. Maybe your hoof is two bones?

I sure appreciate all your help. Are you going to come out with any more training DVD's anytime soon?
