View Full Version : Ultimate plugin COMING SOON
LucentDreams 05-22-2003, 01:20 AM Oh man Paul Everett has done it again you guys.
Noticed a small blurb on his site( www.tools4d.com ) about his exciting new plugin
http://www.tools4d.com/SniperPro/sniperclips.htm
Definitely keep an eye out for the release of this beautiful plugin, the movie file while showing it off a bit, does not do it justice because of the processing hog of the videocaptrue app. Let me tell you being able to move a light around and see VOLUME CAUSTICS and AREAS SHADOWS while your moving it (not 24FPS on my 1.2 gig Athlon, but still more than a frame a second 320x240) is nothing to laugh at. Nothing can helop you light a scene more than real feedback, and being able to see softshadows in realtime will definitely help you get the look you want. Transperency? sure, reflections you bet, Radiosity, again not realtime, but far faster then rendering in the editor, POST EFFECTs? Heeeeelllllll yeah, post effects in realtime, oh man nothing beats being able to spin around your 3D wineglass with transparency, caustics softshadow and the HIGHLIGHT post effect interactively, get that light exactly where you want it. ]
Defoinitely keep an eye out for this baby, it can even record renders of your progress, for easy comparison of your tests without eve having to hit the dang render button.

That sounds brilliant Kai

This is definitely one of the most impressive plugins i've ever tried in C4D, another great job by Paul!

Really looks like a must have. Would probably save enough money to pay for itself in no time.

actually one thing I forgot to mention, is that not only does it render tests of caustics and GI really fast, but especially with caustics you can really optimize a scene because you don't have to wait for long testrenders, cut the photons in half and see the result in not time at all, play aorund see what gets the look you want without pumping in 20000 photons that aren't needed. I haven't used caustics a lot in the past, mainly because it took forever to do all the test renders to make sure it was in the right spot and looke right, well now your problems are solved, I cans ee myself using those features without second guessing if they are wort the render times now. And its pretty cool to move around a scene with the cel render turned on. even DOf works, although that much like radiosity is not realtime by any means, still a lot faster than rendering to picture viewer or even the editor.

Ditto that bit - one 36-hour render was quite enough for me.
One thing about this plug - obviously without giving away any trade secrets :shame: - but how does it work? Does it make a tiny proxy scene and render that quietly in the background, or extrapolate from how one set of settings looked and attempt to guess what will happen when they change, or... ?
Thing is, if Paul has worked out how to do real-ish time caustics and radiosity, it might not just be Cinema users that are interested ;)

Sweet this looks awesome. It reminds me of final cut pros awesome perveiw feature that lets you see things at varying degrees of detail. 100-75-50-25 etc.
man that looks like a time saver, great plugin dude.
on a side note is this something that any other 3D app has? Or is this one of those things which we can say only exists in cinema?

no its not an original thing, I mean its original in many apsects, but there are a few things that work under the same concept, LW's Vip[er for instance and a plugin for LW called G2 or somethng like that, XSI's editro render view works under the same idea of auto updates but doesn't have the optimization of pauls.
as for how it works, I"m not going to get into that, but it will help you optimize tyour scenes, its not some fancy new technology for realtime caustics, its just smarter about using our current caustics.

I second everything Kai said. I've been using it for a few weeks now and it's totally indispensible.

mmm citygen, yes very proomising plugin, on the backburner for the moment as I understand it, most I figure because of how much he wants to put into it its gonna be a big plugin when available, so be patient for that one.

ok i got it confused...something is wrong with me today!!! sorry
http://www.worley.com/G2/g2_main.html#top
G2 is something different all together...its still kicks ass...but its more about lighting and shading as far as i can tell...i just remember reading about lighting previews or realtime previews so thats my loose association...anyways always worth reading what the competition does....

Actually, while G2 is a whoel set of shaidng tools (from fresnel to SSS to an awesome NPR shadin thing) it has a specila preview tool included in it which is verysimilar to sniper pro, thats hwy you htought they were similar. The preview tool in G2 and sniper are verysimilar.

Just an FYI for Mac users. There are some problems that (according to Rui Batista posting at Postforum) are already fixed. Hopefully Paul will get a fixed version out. I've been trying it out for an hour or so and it's easy to see that (once the Mac problems are fixed) it will be a great productivity enhancer.

hehe don't know how he got this past us, but look carefuly at the bottom of the buyy plugins page, and you'll see another new sweet little plugin, nice cheap one that projects splines onto objects, but unlike the built in one, or samirs which allows you to draw the splines on, this one projects it cynamically (hence the name) so its can be animated, even better, its so fast you can project the spline onto a deformeing object say an object in Nickl or something, then align an object to spline and you now have an object moving around the surface of the deforming object, without any seriously noticeabl speed hits (I had music playing in WMP and the music skipped when I rotated around the scene, but the scen itself never stalled.) Pretty cool little plugin I"m sure a few of you could find a lot of use for. I see a lot of potential in this, hopefully paul finds time to add comera projection to this as well.

Huh, I haven't even tried it with PC yet, but I just discovered that it's a *big* help setting up Arndt's Translucent Pro shader.
