k first of all Im new at this, so dont go around: "HOW DARE YOU POST THAT PIECE OF S***" ok? Im too sensitive. On the other hand the main reason I posted is cuz I would like to hear things like: do this here, do that over there... and tips like that.
so here it is:

thats a good start!
the textures seem a bit lowres.. maybe increase that some?

and get some nice eye-textures.. you'd be amazed of how alive characters get when the eyes look right :)

cuz right now Im presing Print Screen button

Best tool I found for Max (also a free one) is Texporter download here: http://www.cuneytozdas.com/software/

The help file included tells you how to use it and you end up with a bitmap (whatever size you want) of the wireframe unwaped so you can paint over it with skin etc...

This is a shot fom there website:
http://www.cuneytozdas.com/software/Texporter/britney.jpg

Keep us posted on your progress.

The eyes are much better. What method are you using for modeling? patch? poly? edit mesh? nurbs? etc

Dogzer
05-22-2003, 12:28 AM
uhm.. I create the mesh with splines with no curves, make the faces one by one, and then apply meshsmooth

Keep us updated with progress and the final video.

No offense, but she does not look really female right now. Judging from the way her face is cut I'd say this is a quite slender guy.

Even though she's an efl you might want to make her head a bit more rounded and feminine.

lol thx! I'll do that :)

Dogzer

Woah! Sweet body.... :applause:

Nice to see it coming along so fast... My only comments are that the head looks a little too tall (stretched) and the hands a little bit too large.

Dogzer

thx dave! closer look the her body, look at the clothing

davebloke

Yes you are...
Starting from the bottom up....

The boots are way to thick, they were thiner a while back. How would she close her legs when walking? :) And the tops of the boots are a too square.

The creasing around the hips is cool :p Maybe some sort of zip or seam would add interest too

The top is looking good, I see you made the breasts less defined, looks better, hows about making the shoulder bits more defined/sharper?

The arms look great and the hands too, The thumb is way too large (over half the thicknes of her writs!) though.

The head is hard to see at this distance but looks in proportion.

:applause:

k, look at this and tell me what should I do next

davebloke
05-23-2003, 05:38 PM
I don't know the image you have in your head that your working to, so I can't tell you what to do next, however... The following 4 things look odd:

1: The top of the boots are too square, they would look better rounder I think. (see attached pic)

2: Her neck is grey, looks like a texture error. (see attached pic)

3: The Texture on the torso/gloves is a little flat, adding a bit of tone would make the creases and fingers stand out more.

4: The feet are letting the body down, maybe find a photo of some boots on the internet that look like what you want yours to look like and have a go at copying them...

:bounce: Anyone else got any comments?:bounce:

davebloke

The image quality is way too low to have a good look. It looks like the hair is a bit flat (could be lighting) some shadows would help this.. The shine on the metal is so strong and the bump so deep that it looks a bit like tin-foil. The ears are sticking out a bit too much now. The face is still a little too long.

I do like the pattern on the metal tho :) Check out
This thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61486&perpage=15&pagenumber=5) about half way down, he shows how he made his metal texture. That spec map makes all the difference.

Kalasfixaren

well, the modeling itself is very nice!

But the head lacks of correct proportions, goto www.fineart.sk and download yourself some pics of weird peoples' heads and use them as reference while modeling :)

i think this new head blows the old one away, but the back of the jaw seems a bit flat. usually you see a lot of bone structure in an elf's face, but here the cheeks look more human.

love the orc head too

Dogzer
05-27-2003, 07:39 PM
thanks! but I dont want to post a pic every little change I make., even though it looks much better now, so please give me more ideas before I post again.:)

Elfs are tall and skinny runts (like me then). Define as much of the bone structure on the face as possible. Even though the eyes are not sunken in, try making the top of the socket a littler more heavy.

thx!

I have a question, I copied the texporter plugin to my max5 plugin folder, and I go to utilities and there is no texporter anywhere, can anyone relate to that?

davebloke
05-30-2003, 06:13 PM
In utilities, click more.

Dogzer
05-30-2003, 06:15 PM
yes I clicked more, as the help file said, but there isnt texporter anywhere..

davebloke
05-30-2003, 06:48 PM
hmmmmmmmm, My "Texporter3.dlu" is in my 3dsmax5/plugins folder...

The only 2 things i can think of are:
1/ you have put it in the 'stdplugins' not 'plugins' folder
2/ you downloaded the wrong version for your version of max. (the site has version 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

They have a forum here: http://www.cuneytozdas.com/forum/
you might be able to get an answer on there, sorry I can't help more.
