hi there!

anyone got a good idea how to do a rainbow. it doesnt have to look too photoreal as it is supposed to be very "cheesy". the only thing i can think of would be painting it in photoshop but this really lacks easy animation possibilities. and id really prefer a 2d solution since im not that firm with all those 3d tools.

you could just make 7 circles in your compositing app, each a little larger than the other, colour them ROYGBIV, nest them (pre comp in AE?) & mask half off with a garbage mask. If you wanted to use a transfer mode to make them look more realistic, you could use the alpha of the next smaller circle as the matte (or stencil layer in combustion) to remove the inside of the circle.
