Hey that's pretty good. Much better than many first-timers.
All you really need is more detail in your texture. Perhaps a bump map too for skin detail.
Looks like you're painting a lot of lighting into the texture though, you might want to back off on the specular highlights (let your lighting handle that). Unless you're creating for a game with limited lighting, so you want to bake it all in.

Hehehe cool character - I love the ears :D
Posm made a good point about the highlights - they look a little too much. Try toning those down a little :)
You should make a nice bump map to start building up some roughness to the skin ;)
The horns look luminous :surprised

The character looks too emissive, too bright. The light is not affecting it very much, which may be erasing a lot of your bump. Take a look at the link for Ulf Lundgren's heads. He has an image of the bump map he used. Not the best bump map out there, but it does a good job in his renders. I think you need skin texture... the bumpiness of the teeny little wrinkles all over the skin.
