How it's possible to open (correctly convert) Maya4.5 polygonal model whith bitmap textures in Maya4 ?
.obj is working but result is not correct.

Save the scene file as ascii .ma and delete the lines at the beginning of the file that say fileinfo and requires then import the file into Maya 4

This works method does work indeed, butt you should be aware that Features that are only supported in version 4.5 are not loaded correctly in Maya 4.0. It then ignores the faults and will load the file correctly without the Features that are supported in version 4.5.

It's working good!
It's enough for my purposes although some errors in script editor.
So simply. Why this is not included in standard option for save operation - unknown ...
For example like in Corel DRAW (you can select save options for earliest versions).

The eerrors are from whatever differences there are in the format..they are insignificant because the way maya stores models has not changed.

There was MEL script to help with this for an earlier version but this method is sufficient enough and they do wish tot encourage people to upgrade.
