Cool man... digging the turle alien ship... neat concept... very different from the rest!!!
What are the objects dropping in the last shot? bombs? destruction debris? alien babies?

Thanks Scottage, our ship modeler is a pretty creative guy.
The objects dropping down in the last shot are going to become a swarm of alien bugs.
A couple of them will come out of those spores on the ship then break into a huge swarm.

Hey everyone,
My DP and I shot the plates yesterday, at 4 different locations around NYC. We got some great stuff, and I still need to get them off his P2 card and into a usable format, but they should be posted soon.

Swwweeeeeet dude! Loving the light wrap! Fits in there really well.... Maybe bring the blacks on the ship a little lighter? To match the deep blues of the NY plate?
But dude.... looking sick!

I'm really looking forward to this entry. We've only seen some really early wips and just one frame so I have no clue what to expect.

I don't want to bother you but what do you use for that explosion and what software do you use composting?

I don't know how they did it, but if you are a 3DsMax user you might want to look into Afterburn, or even better: FumeFX.
Down at the bottom of this blog (http://blog.lekkerleip.nl/?p=102) i've done a simple FumeFX test, and although it needs some more tweaking and all... it works really good. Its more for smoke and flames though. For big explosions you might want to try afterburn.

I don't have 3Ds Max, but thanks anyway.

snicket : For this competition we are using Maya and Nuke.
For the explosion i rendered out multiple Fluid effects sims.
Fuel fire and a fuel explosion. Many compositing cheats!
3dMax Fume and afterburn are awesome! Maybe for another project.
