View Full Version : bvh impor@& tweaking
hi
I'de like to use bvh files for animating a character in C4D.
Is it possible to do the first import and set up the character
with the bones created by the bvh file, then on subsequent
imports copy the changes in the new bvh bones to the original set, otherwise i'de have to do the setup each time i tweaked the
bvh file. Any ideas?

Set up your character and weight the mesh FIRST! Record a neutral set up pose.
Import your BVH rig. In the Timeline highlight ALL the position tracks except the Hips. Delete them!
Make sure your rig and the BVH rig heirarchies are identical. The bones can have different names but the function they serve must match exactly. Now copy the tracks from the BVH rig (Hips: Position, rotation; All Others: Rotation) by dragging them in the Timeline to your rig. Slide them to the right of your neutral pose sequence. Make sure the right bones are getting the right rotation tracks!
If you get funky results it means your heirarchy doesn't match the BVH file closely enough. Don't worry though, once you troubleshoot the heirarchy, other MoCap sequences will be much easier to adapt.

thanks mrblifil
I get the jist of what your saying, - i can just drag and drop the animation tracks from one rig to another
but why the first step :
>Import your BVH rig. In the Timeline highlight ALL the position tracks except the Hips. Delete them!
when you later say copy the positon tracks?
>Now copy the tracks from the BVH rig (Hips: Position, rotation; All Others: Rotation)

You need the position track for the hips because that is the root of your heirarchy around which everything moves! Notice I said "except the hips." The position track for the hips is crucial, for the rest of the rig, garbage.
