View Full Version : Character: plushy bunny
maxmare 05-21-2003, 08:09 AM This is my first attemp at cartoony thinigies. I made HIM last weekend to start animating for a short.
HE is supposed to be a tough wearing fluffy/plushy/velvety bunny to be trashed around in every toddler's gameyard. I still want to tweak the model a bit but I'd like some feedforward before I do it. Thanks.
BTW I know the eyes/mouth/no nose area is going to be hard to animate feelings, but that's a challenge, isn't it?

If he's supposed to be a well used and abused child's toy, I would suggest dirtying up the texture a bit and maybe go with some small rips and tears on him from over usage.
As for showing emotion, I guess there is no reason why the eyes can't change shape(it is a cartoon afterall) Also you could try doing the mouth as a seperate piece of geometry rather than just a texture, so you can changes its shape and size to help express emotion.
The model looks really good and I like the fuzzy furry look it has.:buttrock:

Reminds me of the Velvateen Rabbit, the childrens book. I like the colors in the midsection, very complimentary, I think the feet and head should have a similar color combination. The orange at the tips of the ears and toes seems to "colorful" for a worn, abused toy. I love the fuzzy texture though. Very good.

I really like the old fuzzy look of the head and textures
but
I think there is too much inconsistency between the head and the rest of the body. If the people who made this toy went to the lengths to make all of the fingers and toes and long skinny limbs, they would probably put a much more articulate and well defined head on it. Not a fuzzy sphere with some buttons. Maybe that could be part of the back story though.
The original head got ripped off and was lost, so a parent, in hopes of calming a crying child, quickly sewed on a foam ball and some buttons and hoped the kid wouldnt notice.

Thanks for the comments, I always appreciate them.
D_NICE: I agree: all versions are going to be used at different shots (clean&used, trashed, etc..). The mouth isn't a texture, it is a spline, so I can deform it, not sure about wich one (one big stitch or multiple ones).
Marcinko: I didn't know about the Velvateen Rabbit, but I read the story in the net and is kind of similar to mine actually (or mine to it). Fix the color range, thanks
StraightMark: Spot on! The story has a perverse mood so I guess freaky is right.
Now I know the new head looks more like a rabbit, but I think I should go for something in between, not sure about the mouth or nose either, I guess I'll have to try to animate them before I decide.
c&c wellcome again. thxs

that multi stitchedmouth kinda scares me.
Trying some deformed mouth positions on both of the methods and post some shots.
