This is my very first 3D animated movie, I'd love any feedback and comments about what to improve and what you like about it. At the moment i'm a bit of a 3D generalist, but i would love to focus my attentions on set and character design. Its what i love the most.

Thanks, I really enjoy set design, Adrenaline Monkey is much more famous for its environments than its animation which i had to rush because of time constraints towards the end of the project.

I'd love some crits from people about edits and story etc, as well as general stuff that could be improved.

I'm about to start work on my next film which will be a professional grade piece so its vital i get as much input from you guys as possible about my weaknesses and strengths.

The depth of the environment was largely due to matte paintings, however creating a believable foreground was the largest challenge and culminated in creating a small but very varied sample of high detail plant and tree models which could be respawned in many locations and create a more full and immersive jungle.

I'd say the animation needs the most work. The environment and characters are fairly solid, but the poses are very general and the movement is floaty. Keep working though man you are close!

Good work!

Yeh, This was really my first stab at animation aside from a short showreel I posted on you tube, Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs0ao5CWdTw .

The animation was very rushed and I had to get the whole film animated in four days, its all ' first pass' animation due to falling behind in the schedule after taking too long on the environment design.

Its a shame because it is my dream to be an animator yet this seems to be one of my weaker skills, however practice makes perfect and my next film will be coming out late april early may 09, so up until then i shall be practicing reguarly and this time i will almost certainly have a film blog posted up on CG Talk to get you guys feed back..

Thanks

ok for a first short film that you have done great job mentioning you were at a time constraint it was pretty solid.

ok now here comes the crits lol dont worry they might be harsh but its to make you better:
1. animation needs tons of work like the other posted comments
2. the story needs work, its confusing and almost random ( the story needs to be told better)
- my first impression was, the teddy bear was helping the monkey get the bananas, but then all of a sudden he decided stop him from getting the bananas.
- the idea of a spaceship is fun but it seems random therefore wont be as funny as you would hope to be.
3. the environment seems odd because it seems its half dessert, half forest.
4. characters are good but not sure if they fit with the story.

those are a few comments i have that i remembered, im sure they will be addressed later.
to make your next short film amazing, make sure you deliver the story most importantly to the viewers enough for them to understand what is going on. everything else can be decent and still get the audiences enjoying it. i may seem like i know it all but reallly i know very little, but im sure those are helpful tips. keep it up looking forward to seeing your next short film

Thanks for the comments, the story was based on Wiley Coyote and road runner, a Warner Bros cartoon. The initial idea was to make the Monkey attempt several adrenaline fueled stunts to get the Bananna and his companion Teddy to get tired of being his sidekick and turn on him.

Classic first film / student mistake. A film which you think will be funny and understandable is infact mysterious and slightly weird. lol.

My ethos for my next film is STORY STORY STORY. Technical skills are pointless if you cannot engage and audience, your abilites in art should merely enhance and assist the story visually.

Failure is a component of success, onward and upward!
