Hey, guys...long time no post for me! =) Anyways, here a little piece I'm working on right now...Snowspeeder from Star Wars...I'm currently focusing on the modeling (as you can tell). Any Crits/Comments would be appreciated. I can tell I've allready got some proportional issues with the rear engine bays, as well as shaping on the cockpit, and various other things....meh...guess there more than I thought! LOL. Anyways, here goes:

and a wire sneek peek:

Lemme know either way!! =))

I think more people should have commented on this, since it is modeled and rendered nicely.

However...

It fails in one area, and that is stylistic appeal. It is modeled from a Star Wars concept, that everyone's eye is too used to seeing. that's why it doesn't really have that WOW! to it.

I say you can take this concept to the next level by making half of it a living creature with pulsating tentacles that whip around...

my 2 cents.

Are you being completely serious? (I dont meant that offensively) LOL Cause I'm am trying to replicate the actual craft from the movie LOL

good start there
but what kind of reference are you using.
The basic hull seems ok but the boxes in the back where the air breaks come out look a little flat.
Also the gun seems to small in diameter.
Try to get as much reference as possible, it is out there
especially for star wars stuff.
for a start (just from a quick search on google)

I know that the snowspeeder has some weird angles in its so simple looking shape, had to build one myself a few month back.
keep us posted

start with modelling the gun since it is the easiest to reproduce.
The main shape of the guns isn't much more than a bunch of differently scaled cylinders stuck into each other.
So try to get that as close to the reference as possible (also with its smaller details) and then go from there.
It is much easier to get the scaling of the whole craft right, the more correctly scaled small parts you have and i think the guns are the easiest.

LOL Interesting enough, thats what I actualy started with, is the guns...They ended up being too small, so I did scale them up, thats why there is stretching in the "ribbed" portions...thats something I'll redo...as for the hull and the engine compartments being flat, yea, I have to add the extra panels and what not...I'm trying to figure out how to get the ribbed look to them..wondering if I should use a displacement/bump map, or actually model it. And one thing I noticed is that I think the air brake doors are a little small in comparison...I have a plastic model sitting in front of me.(older one with just the outer shell, canopy and bottom piece, and guns.) That site looks superb for some reference..I tried searching when I started but couldnt find anything...thanks a lot for that!! You said you built one a few months back, eh? Sweet...now I know who I can bug for some ideas :P No, seriously though...would it be possible to see a render of yours? I'd like to see how mines stackin up to the pro's ;)

Anyways, thanks for the input...I appreciate it very much...I can use all the help I can get right now, as I haven't been modeling much lately, and am starting to get back into the groove of things.

also where the gun is the biggest in diameter it is sunk into the hull a little bit.
>though...would it be possible to see a render of yours?
sorry but since i did it all for work, i can't give out any renders or wireframes.
you can go here and see the screenshots but they won't help you much for modeling, sorry

but i definitely check back to see your progress

Boy...I guess I should take you as an athority in this category, eh?? LOL...yea...heres a render of the gun area...Im having some smoothing issues right now with the guns, because I had scaled them up, so now it looks like shite becuase I forgot got stupid and attatched all the pieces of the gun together, and now meshsmooth affects all the pieces, so I have to now go in and adjust the creasin on all the edges that need to be sharp...blah..lol oh well...here goes...

i think you need to render from a greater distance, because at the moment i can tell its something... but i dont have a clue what it looks like.

the modelling looks good so far from what i can tell

more renders and youll prolly get more replies :)

keep it up tho
