View Full Version : Is there a cubic projection?
Elliotjnewman 05-20-2003, 10:22 PM Hello peeps. I was just wondering if there is a cubic projection in maya? Like the cubic projection in Lightwave, (all I see in maya is planar, cylindrical, spherical and auto)
Cheers, Ell.

hey elliot, i think there is its a env mapping projection i think so. the last time i saw it was long ago, i think there was 6 sides or you had other options but its in there. i also could be thinking of something totally differnt been long time since i saw that. maybe that will get you on the right track though, i dont know sorry.

i don't think so....
i wonder why not? :surprised
isn't it a very common thing for 3d packages to have?

Well I think that the env projection may be it - ill take a look.
Yeah if Maya doesnt have it then it would suck.
If it doesn't exist, I can see it being quite easy to do a MEL script to do it.....
With 6 planar projections, and checking the normals of each face.....
And maybe linking the planar projections to a cube so that the whole thing can be transformed together...

i can't believe no one else has noticed this before! i mean it was one of the first things i looked for when i started with Maya and i think it must have been one of the first questions i asked on this board.
if anyone can write a mel script there would be great applause, at least from me. :applause:
I'll put it on my 'list of MEL Script to write' list....
I'll give it a go over the next couple of days... got an exam this afternoon, though, so can't get started right away ;)

In automatic, on the options, wasnt there from 3 sided to 12 sided proj???
I thought there is a cubic......but your question made me doubt.....

hmm, yes, you are right... i see(said the blind woman)
only problem is that on complex models the auto mapping it tends to cut up the uv's into teeny tiny pieces... maybe this is to be expected....
