Any idea about how to make a rock material in C4d? Thats the result of about 2 hours try and error.. and I'm not really convinced on how it looks so far :annoyed:

Hi. A great start for stone is the Bhodi Nut Volume shader-Danel. Materials manager > BhodiNut Volume >Danel. Use the Diffuse, a few specular channels, ambient and roughness channels. In the Rouphness channel in teh Bump window use Luka for the Function. Give the grit in the Rouphness channel like a green or whatever color and this will contrast with whatever color is in the Diffuse channel. HTH.

Maynard, the lead singer of tool says that Rock is a by-product of mind altering substances... but you seem to have done a good job using prodedurals.

you may want to add another low frequency color noise to the current setup, using fusion.

Try to make the bumps appear here and there, instead of all over the rock. And the moss with smoother transitions in the alpha channel (low contrast).

Below is the result of one of my lucky streaks with materials, wich I made for a sort of earth creature covered with moss and all that. I was rather pleased with it.

Naturally, the scale is totally out of wack in this example as I smacked this scene together to show the material.

In can mail you the file if you'd like.

Sorry for the microscopic pic...

Have a look at these - they´ll give you a good idea of how to build a rock shader.

Thanks everybody for your input!
Special thanks to Kiri, it was your hint to vary the bump channel that did the trick for me.
I tried the Danel shader, but it didn't really what I was looking for.

Here's a quick HDRI render of the scene for now... it will be the last post for a week, tomorrow I'll go on a motorbyke tour through Italy... Yehaaaaa!!! :bounce:

Looking loads better... but yeah, the grass is too green, try using two or more colors for it, mix in a few brown spots with very low contrast.

BTW, the name is KirL... :)
