Software: Painter, Photoshop

My intention was to create a kind of dependent balance between fake and real, and research the strange sensation of confusion that derives.
I wanted to depict in subtle differences between the left hand side, where natural imperfect and mortal roses grow, where there is a balance of good and bad, hierarchy, but also playfulness and mischief, and the right hand side, where the roses are too perfect to be real, where her only friends are plastic toys and artificial communication. I wanted to create a confusion, is the girl a doll, mortal or immortal, does the city exist or is only a distant memory, etc.

I've used many references for the pose, for the hands, feet,
roses, cat, city ,sign and other details, most of which are loosely based.

Photo reference here (http://pickled.free.fr/milk_reference.jpg)

BTW, the city in the background is referenced from Singapore, but there is no particular meaning to this choice other then the fact that I liked it's clean city scape lines.

i think the gray color on the background doesn't work, hmmm.. perhaps u mix with a bit of brown color, or else that can make a contrast with the foreground color, now between the BG n FG really blend together, and there's no focus, but the character is awesome. especially the face looks cute. :D love the expression. keep on rockin!

ssmaya, xinghuacuncz, kyee, Bif, Arias - I greatly appreciate you taking the time to comment on my work, and I'm so happy you could like it!! Thank you really so much :D

henryzjetsam - Thank you for your comment. coming from someone talented as you, really makes me give extra thought. I usually try to avoid pure gray in my work, if I only can, as it's a very flat colour. in this work however I wanted to depict flatness like a comic or a news paper print. when I tried mixing in other colours like brown or green it always felt like I was loosing this flatness... anyway, it is a little sad I couldn't make it work for you. I am happy you could still like her expression though :)

Paul-Francis - Wow, You have no idea how happy your comment has made me . Thank you :)

This puts me in mind of American McGee's Alice. I don't mean in any derivative kind of way, just that it somehow has a similar sensibility of innocence twisted into something disturbing. You definitely succeeded in your goal of combining the natural and the artificial. This image is both compelling and frightening, and I like it!

very but very very beautiful. i like the details, the ornaments you made and how she seems too be lying on the floor but at same time like if she's in a wall lifting. her face is very intriguing and the pose of her hands is beautiful.

side of the composition, to focus attenction on the subject..
